An unsung hero is a skilled, dedicated and diligent person who has served the larger community long and well but has never won the headlines. Their contributions within "social profit organizations," (otherwise known as non-profits) deserve to be better known, more fully appreciated and publicly applauded – because they will inspire the rest of us.
On Saturday 10 April 2010, we will be recognizing the respectful, compassionate and patient commitment of Viki Prescott, the “glue” behind the Bridges for Women Society for more than 16 years. Viki, who has recently retired from Bridges, has left a quiet legacy, but her supporters feel she deserves a sing-out for the inspiration and leadership she has provided to Bridges students and graduates. Bridges for Women Society was established in Victoria in 1988 to provide women survivors of any form of abuse with education, training and other supportive programs which will help them break the abusive cycle. They are active in sharing information with groups, organizations and the public on the needs of women who have a history of abuse. A ticket for this memorable evening is $50. All of the funds raised will go to support the Bridges for Women Society. To reserve a ticket, please email donate@bridgesforwomen.ca or phone 250-385-7410.
